01About

A small route, one kind of appliance, and gauges before verdicts

Sub-Zero Repair Experts Los Angeles is an independent repair shop for built-in Sub-Zero refrigeration. Not a call centre, not a franchise with a dispatch board in another state.

  • Trading in Los Angeles since 2001.
  • Licensed, bonded and insured. We provide our licence number to customers on request.

Our route runs from the Silver Lake reservoir and the streets under Griffith Park, over the Cahuenga pass, and down into Studio City and Sherman Oaks. It is a small territory on purpose. A tight route is what makes it possible to come back tomorrow with the part instead of next week.

The kitchens differ more than the equipment does. On the east side a column is usually wedged into a 1920s opening with a finger of clearance on each side, and getting it out without marking plaster is half the job. In the valley the same unit sits in an opened-up ranch kitchen with the condenser breathing warm air all afternoon, and it fails from heat and dust rather than from age.

What that means in practice: we read the sealed system before condemning it, we carry the fans, relays, thermistors, gaskets and inlet valves that actually fail on these units, and we put panel-ready fronts back exactly as the installer left them. If a repair is genuinely not worth doing, that is what you will hear.

The equipment is the reason for the narrow focus. A built-in column is a cabinet-integrated machine with two evaporators, its own air circuits and control electronics that outlive nothing else in the kitchen. Read it properly and most faults are a fan, a thermistor, a heater or a gasket. Read it badly and someone tells you to buy a new refrigerator and a new cabinet front to go with it.

  • Diagnosis before opinion

Meters on the fans and thermistors, gauges on the sealed system when that is genuinely the question. A verdict without readings is a guess with a confident voice.

  • One number, agreed first

Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it. Anything past that is quoted as one firm total and agreed before the tools go further.

  • One kind of equipment

Built-in refrigeration only. Depth on four appliances beats a van that half-knows twelve, and it is why the part is usually already with us.

  • The kitchen goes back

Floors protected before a unit moves, panel-ready fronts refitted the way the installer left them, and the old parts left where you can see them.

What we will not do

  • Quote a sealed-system repair over the phone without gauges on it
  • Open a cabinet further before you have agreed the number
  • Take a range, oven, dishwasher or washer call — that is not our trade

Questions

What people ask before booking

How fast can someone get out to me?

The phone is answered 24/7 and work runs 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days. A call placed in the morning usually gets a slot that afternoon or the following morning, because the route only covers Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Studio City and Sherman Oaks.

What does the $89 service call include?

The visit and the full diagnosis: gauges on the sealed system where that is the question, meter readings on the fans, thermistors and defrost circuit, and a written fault with the part and the total. It is credited against the repair once you approve it.

My fresh food side is warm but the freezer is fine. Is that the compressor?

Usually not. On a dual-evaporator built-in that pattern points at the fresh food evaporator fan, its thermistor or a defrost fault on that side only — the freezer circuit is doing its job, which is why it is still cold. A failed compressor takes both compartments up together.

Do you work on panel-ready and integrated columns?

Yes, and most of what we see is exactly that. Custom fronts and flush installations come out and go back as part of the job. If a unit has to be drawn out of a tight opening we protect the floor and the cabinet returns before anything moves.

Is it worth repairing a unit that is twenty years old?

Usually yes on this equipment. These cabinets outlast their electronics and their fans, and the parts that fail are still available. The honest exceptions are a compressor plus a contaminated system on a low-hours unit, or corrosion in the evaporator — we tell you which one you have before you spend anything past the service call.

Warm compartment today, not next week

A morning call usually gets an afternoon slot — the route is only Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Studio City, Sherman Oaks.
