Ice Maker Repair in Los Angeles

Clear-ice modules, inlet valves, pumps and drains on Sub-Zero built-in and undercounter ice makers.

$89 service call covers the visit and the diagnosis, credited against the repair.

White ice bin with a single row of cubes drawn out of an undercounter ice maker, the cube plate, pump housing and water plumbing above it

How it arrives on the phone

  • Bin staying empty with no cubes forming at all
  • Cubes coming out hollow, half size or cloudy
  • Cubes fusing into one block in the bin
  • Water pooling under the ice maker cabinet

Clear-ice machines are plumbing, a small refrigeration circuit and a timing control all in one cabinet. Hollow cubes, no cubes and a bin of fused ice are three different faults with three different fixes.

Reading the cubes before touching a tool

  1. 01

    No ice at all

Water first: inlet valve, supply and filter. Then the module or the circulation pump, then whether the plate is getting cold at all. Half of these are a valve or a starved supply.

  2. 02

    Hollow, half-size or cloudy cubes

The freeze cycle is being cut short or the water is not circulating over the whole plate. Pump, plate cleanliness and the cycle timing, in that order — and hard-water scale is the usual culprit here.

  3. 03

    Cubes fused into one block

Harvest is not clearing or the bin is running warm. We check the harvest cycle and the bin thermostat, and look for a drain that is backing up under the ice.

  4. 04

    Water under the cabinet

Drain, pump seal and the inlet fitting. On undercounter installations we pull the unit out to see where the water actually starts, because it never starts where it pools.

If the machine is scaled rather than broken, a clean and a descale is the whole repair and we will say so instead of selling you a pump.

What it costs

What these repairs run once we know which one it is

The bands below cover almost everything that fails on built-in Sub-Zero refrigeration. Every one is a range because the part, the access and how tightly the cabinet is installed all move the labour.

The call-out Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it. Past that you get the fault, the part and one firm total for your unit, agreed before any work starts — and the $89 comes off that total the moment you approve it.

Parts and labour for the repair itself, on this equipment, in Los Angeles:

  • Door gasket or seal replacement $300–$620
  • Evaporator or condenser fan motor $340–$720
  • Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor $270–$610
  • Ice maker, water valve or supply line $290–$860
  • Electronic control board $420–$990
  • Compressor or sealed-system repair $1,400–$3,040

None of those rows is a deposit or a teaser figure: each one is the window your repair lands inside once the diagnosis is done, and you hear the exact number for your unit before the tools go further. Where a repair sits at the top of its band we set it beside the alternative, which on this equipment is $11,580–$20,360 for a comparable built-in replacement, before installation and cabinetry work.

  • We were getting maybe a dozen cubes a day through a hot stretch. Scale had crusted the fill tube and the bin sensor was filthy. He cleaned both out and the bin fills properly now.

    Aurelio G.Los Feliz

  • Ours lives outside by the pool and had dropped to a trickle of hollow cubes. He measured the fill and found the valve strainer choked with grit. Cleared it, and the bin was full overnight.

    Bethany F.Studio City

  • The maker in our back bar quit completely and the reset in the booklet did nothing. He checked the supply, found the module seized, and changed it out.
